Cape Verde has sworn in its new government made up of 12 members compared to 20 in the previous administration.
The new government led by the country’s Prime Minister Ulysses Correira whose party won 40 of the 72 seats in the legislative election, has promised to tackle corruption by creating about 45,000 jobs in five years.
“A reliable country is a country which ensures transparency, legal security, stability and economic predictability with opportunities for the young,” said Prime Minister Ulysses Correia Silva. “There should be equality and inclusiveness.”

The archipelago’s president Jorge Carlos Fonseca called on the government to do all it can to increase the country’s growth rate in order to improve living standards.
“Economic growth is without a doubt the greatest challenge that the government will have because the bad results of these last seven years have had negative effects on the employment and incomes of families,” Fonseca said.
The new government has also promised to make the business climate more favourable and reduce crime wave.
